Colourimetry
If you or a child struggle with symptoms of visual stress, come and talk to us about coloured overlays and colorimetry.
WHAT IS VISUAL STRESS?
Visual stress is a leading cause of difficulty with reading,
as well as some cases of migraine.
It often manifests as
-
Words moving around or merging
-
Print fading or hurting to look at
-
Glare form the page
-
Flickering shapes, colours or patterns in the text
The use of colour can help with the symptoms of visual stress.
Initially we use coloured overlays, which can be placed over text when reading.

HOW CAN COLOURED OVERLAYS HELP?
Research has found that one in five children will demonstrate an improvement in reading speed through the use of a coloured overlay.
COLOURIMETRY
If improvements are seen and sustained when the patient is using coloured overlays, a further test can be undertaken using the Intuitive Colourimeter. With this machine, the exact optimal colour can be identified, allowing precision tinted lenses to be prescribed. Coloured lenses are more accurate for the individual and are more dynamic for other activities where an overlay may not be applicable such as using digital devices, reading books, reading from the board or presentations.
